Morels, A Success!!!

Albeit a rather small success.  Evan and I found three tiny (only about 2 inches or so each) morels yesterday.  This was after tromping about in the woods for a good hour.  These funky little fungi are tough to find. Admittedly, while I was definitely looking for them, the first one I found was more due to a coincidental glance than to close careful observation.  I found the following two by just carefully searching around the first one.  Because they are so small right now Evan and I assume that we may have passed over several others which haven’t quite poked up through the detritus yet.  Hopefully if we continue searching over the next week or so we will meet with further success.  And even though it wasn’t much, it was still really exciting because neither of us has ever found a morel before.

Pictures:

This is the first morel that we found . . . it was actually more buried than this at first, with just the tip poking out

So we now know that they are out there.  This is great, can’t wait to find more!

note:  My camera sucks . . . like really really sucks.  As far as digital cameras go it is a prehistoric thing (about seven years old) with horrible mega-pixels (4).  All around it is not intended for taking nature pictures (hence the lovely grainy, higher contrast images I am providing).  I am really hoping to invest in a new camera sometime soon.  I don’t necessarily need something that is super fancy, just something which can take halfway decent pictures most of the time.  Here’s hoping.
